Favorite quotes from my conversation with Mandy –
A verse that I look to for my identity in Christ is how Malachi 3:17 you will be my treasured possessions. And there’s others like that, that you’re my daughter, when you think about that, he is the king of the world and we’re his daughter, so we’re a princess, and when people look at us, that’s what they should see who we are or what we do or all those kinds of things, but that they see Jesus in us.

When you start looking at hymns and you start looking at who wrote them and what they were going through when they wrote them, that’s how it connects. I can remember singing hymns and scripture in the same way. It’s like, I’ve known this all my life, but all of a sudden, this verse just pops out because talking about my pain, and even though I knew it said pain all these years, I had a very limited idea of what they were talking about when it came to pain. And now it’s like, oh my word, look, it just opens the scriptures and the hymns wide open.
Mandy Farmer
But God has provided every step of the way. I mean, there were times when, you know, okay, we have $150 to get through the month that’s our food budget. And there’s not just the two of us, but two other kids, that were adults, but always right at the right time, God provided what was needed and he still does today.

So much that happens when you read the Psalms. I had my pastor, my previous, my last pastor before I married Mike, he was always telling me, read a Psalm every day, I was already in the practice of doing that when the betrayal happened. So many times, I can relate to David.

When I tell people I’m shy, they say, no way. And I said, but the thing is that it’s not really shy it’s the self-esteem. And so, anytime I’m in a new position, a new place, I have to get to know the people, I have to fight those demons every time that says, okay, these people, they think you’re worthwhile too.
Mandy Farmer
I fall back on 2 Corinthians 10:5. It says, take every thought captive. And that’s really what we have to take literally. When a thought comes in your mind, you have got to squash it right then because the longer you allow it, it’s like letting Satan get his foot in the door. The longer you allow it to stay there in your mind, the more it’s going to fester there.

Scripture References:
On the day when I act,” says the Lord Almighty, “they will be my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as a father has compassion and spares his son who serves him. Malachi 3:17 NIV
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV
MEET THE AUTHOR, MANDY FARMER

Mandy Farmer served as a pastor’s wife and children’s minister for over 25 years; teaching, singing, and developing curriculum. However, in 2011, her life took an unexpected turn, and she found herself on her back in excruciating pain. Mandy and her husband retired in 2016 and moved to Savannah, Georgia near their 4 adult children.
Mandy’s farm heritage led her to write a picture book based on farm life. Her first self-published picture book, Holly the Holstein Talks About Milk Cows, emerged in 2022.
She started blogging about her journey with God and pain. Because she saw a need within the family context for understanding chronic illness, Mandy created “Soft Hugs for Mommy”.
She is also working on a devotional for those who suffer from chronic pain releasing later in 2024.
