Favorite quotes from our conversation with Gladys-
Quotes:
I have found when we try to grasp or control, we’re just hanging on so much just to some things that if we just release what we have in our hands, God wants to give us, to give us more. And when we release our controls and expectations it allows God’s love to flow really freely through us, but it allows our hearts to be open for love from other people that is there that, that we can’t see because we’re too busy focusing on control.
Dr. Gladys Childs
God looks at us in our brokenness because none of us are perfect. And he says, you are worthy, you are lovable, and you are enough. And if you could just rest in that, then, joy comes and we can learn to live in our imperfect state. And I know with my students one of the things I always try to get them to work on is to, you know, just know what you’re really good at.
Dr. Gladys Childs
I think the first thing is just to try to grasp that being patient does not delay results.
Dr. Gladys Childs
I also think that we leave undone kind deeds and kind words and leave people better off than when we found them because we’re so focused on getting the task done or getting something accomplished. We forget that people are more important than whatever it is that we’re doing.
Dr. Gladys Childs
I think if you’ve suffered from some traumatic event and you’re still struggling through it, if you’ll acknowledge the reality of it and realize that God is with you wanting to help you—that’s a big step that God didn’t cause your trauma and that God can redeem your story.
Dr. Gladys Childs
The fruit of the Spirit makes us beautiful because we reflect God, we glow God. I always like to say we glow God more. No matter the bad things or the stupid things I’ve done I am worthy, I’m redeemed, I’m loved. I’m a beautiful child of God. And that’s how God sees me. He sees me as his beloved, just like we see our own children.
