So, I present to you the five best shows to watch/stream this Easter Season. These productions depict the story of the resurrection of Christ, the event that changed the world forever.

I write this partly as a fan but also as a connoisseur of religious films. For example, epic productions like “Ben Hur” and Cecil B. DeMille’s “The Ten Commandments”, complete with overtures and intermissions. Some of today’s productions are as engaging as these classics with the wonderful story telling and cinematic beauty. That is exciting!

Celebrate “the greatest story” on the screen this Easter with this list of my 5 favorite Easter shows! Above all, these productions have faith and value in their content that the whole family can enjoy.

1) Jesus Live! Sight & Sound TV

Sight & Sound Theatres’ multi-media musical productions bring the Bible to life! Located in Lancaster, Pa and Branson, Mo, their productions are now on Sight & Sound TV. Certainly, God works miracles for His people. Last Easter, with churches closed, Sight & Sound Theatres aired its stage production of “Jesus”. The show reached audiences around the world. “Jesus Live!” not only has excellent music but it also has live animals – a favorite of mine.

This Easter they are bringing us the live production of “Jesus Live!” from the Branson stage. This is a special live performance streaming for viewers around the world. Broadcasting one night only, Friday, April 2nd, 2021, at 7pm ET, with encore events throughout Easter weekend. Watch on the new Sight & Sound TV app, available on multiple devices and Roku. 2) The Chosen – Season 2 Premieres on Easter

“The Chosen” is the first multi-season TV series based on the Gospel’s account of the life of Jesus Christ. Season 2, Episode 1, premieres on The Reelz Channel at 8pm ET on Easter Sunday 4/4. Also, The Chosen has its own app – The Chosen (available for Apple here and Android here).

I really enjoyed season 1 and look forward to Season 2. Filmed in Austin, Texas, you will be transported back to the times of the life of Jesus. The sets, costumes, makeup, and acting are all top quality and the story telling is captivating. “The Chosen” is definitely a must see.

3. Resurrection – Debuts on Discovery+ on March 27

“Resurrection” is a feature-length film presenting the events that follow the crucifixion of Jesus. Persecuted followers of Jesus learn their hope did not die on the cross. Also, the producers are Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, creators of “The Bible” mini-series.

I loved the “The Bible” mini-series and look forward to seeing this film and I am sure it will be as beautiful and stunning. Don’t miss this one!

4. The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965) DVD Barnes & Noble

This is an exquisite epic biblical film produced and directed by George Stevens. “The Greatest Story Ever Told” is about the life Of Jesus of Nazareth from the Nativity to the Ascension. Max Von Sydow does a masterful job as Jesus, along with Dorothy McGuire as Mary, Charlton Heston as John the Baptist, and a frighteningly well-done portrayal of Herod the Great by Claude Rains. “The Greatest Story Ever Told” was originally a U.S. radio series in 1947, written by Henry Denker. You will want to watch this film again and again!

5) King of Kings (1961) DVD Best Buy

“King of Kings” is another favorite Biblical epic film adapted from the New Testament. Several Biblical scholars were hired to make sure the script adhered to the Gospels. It was mostly filmed in Spain with real to life sets. This film will be an Easter season staple in your home if it isn’t already! Enjoy my five best shows to watch/stream this Easter!
