Sharing my beauty today 💕

Where's my rainy day I was promised by the weather app?

We planned our plan B - what do on a rainy beach day - a historical museum, a turtle hospital or a drive to Ron Jon's Surf shop in Coco Beach.

But we awoke to blue skies, not a grey one yet.

We packed our coconut water and wraps, umbrella, chairs and beach towels and walked down to the glorious ocean.

Always that first moment when - there's the ocean! Like a big surprise that I never get over - being surprised and awed in its beauty.

The crashing waves sound as I drink in fresh salt, air and sun.

Full of pelicans, sea birds, silver fish, other unseen, sand, shells, clouds, and blue skies forever, and an endless ocean and only solitude for a time.

Yes, God had other plans for us today, to rest at His ocean side drinking in His Beauty.

This beauty is for all of us. Whether on a beach or in a rainy day and don't let the weather app tell you otherwise.

Today, my guest is Melissa L. Johnson, author of “Soul-Deep Beauty: Fighting for Our True Worth in a World Demanding Flawless” and we are discussing redefining beauty.

Melissa is also founder of Impossible Beauty, a blog and podcast dedicated to redefining beauty as "the life of God at work in us and among us."

Melissa’s journey through an eating disorder opened her eyes to the fact that the beauty and diet industry sells us a narrative that we are flawed.

But also, on a spiritual level, shame keep us from becoming who God made us to be. Namely, His beautiful daughters who are invited to join their Creator as He transforms the fallen into His Beauty.

Melissa unpacks the lies we have been sold and how to encounter the authentic beauty of God. Melissa says we can flourish in a life of authentic Beauty, which is living with God rather than a superficial, fleeting societal Beauty.

Today I am celebrating my 64th birthday and I fee

Today I am celebrating my 64th birthday and I feel glorious, loved, and beautiful. Will I feel that way all day – possibly because that’s what a birthday is – permission to celebrate ourselves – our coming into this world. Will there be not so pretty moments in the day – probably – but if so, I pray that I will deal with them with grace and love. So, I wanted to tell you what it’s like because many of you are not this old. Of course, some of you are and this is for you too. I want to tell you to love every moment of life relishing in it with family, friends, and God. Seize and embrace it and run wild with it. God will never disappoint you.

Yes, I feel do feel beautiful – for this beautiful in me who God created me to be. I am grateful for this beautiful wonderful and exciting thing called life. Every moment by moment holds a precious blessing – my breath, heartbeat, a cup of tea, my Bible, this computer that I am tap tapping on now, and my husband I hear, “Happy birthday” - a house full of love. Thank you, God! Thank you Don for the best birthday pancakes & love ever.

I loved all the answers – to unhurry our thought life, the weekly grind with our children, in everyday life where we feel like we need to accomplish something, whether it's cleaning the house, getting to an appt, sending cards out to friends, making a to do list, calling someone, and many more thoughts in my brain, more time for hobbies, breeding a type A personality, and when we are always in a hurry to go to the next thing, and our day to day activities.

Deborah: In your book Overlooked, on page 39, you write, "When God sees his children, he sees the glory of his perfect Son. When we stand before the eyes of God, covered in redeeming blood, we hear the words we thought were lost and forgotten back in the garden spoken over us again: And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good." Tell us how God brought you to this fantastic truth you wrote about.

Whitney: This truth is ultimately the story of the Gospel – that through Jesus we are reconciled once again to who he created us to be. When I was writing my book, Overlooked, I was struck by the amount of compassionate attention on display in the Creation narrative in Genesis 1. God had a conversation with himself, which is such a beautiful picture of a triune God discussing the creation of man made in His image. When Adam and Eve were created, the first thing they received was the attention and approval of God, “God saw…it was very good.” But with the fall, we were separated from God by sin and that perfect attention and approval was broken. Thankfully, it wasn’t the end of the story. Through the perfect life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, our sins are forgiven and we are welcomed once again to the throne of God where we can hear the attention and approval from the Garden. God sees us, and because of Jesus, we are very good.

August 2023 Gratitude Gifts Recap -

August was lovely full and fun with impromptu getaways when friends call and say come and we did. When the ipod goes out on a long drive to North Carolina and I ask my husband to sing Journey songs and then together with sing Ground control to major Tom.

Closeup time with friends and family and museums and concerts, lingering in heartfelt conversations with the people in my life. We find blessings even in the suffering with each other.

We biked and pulled a 40 and 30 lb watermelons from our garden - who knew watermelon could be a meal.

I started my blog guest series and did my first Zoom interview, classes, and friendship time.

What I find and love is that God is always making new things.

So much more. Every minute is special but here are some of the highlights.
