On Day 6 of the April 30 Days of Poetry Challenge, I am asked to write a poem with my childhood self as the narrator. Day 6 is “Oh, Easter Sunday, What A Day” 30 Days of Poetry Challenge is hosted by The Second Cup.
Oh, Easter Sunday, What A Day
Easter Sunday early morning, I see the baskets of chocolate eggs and jelly beans packed in green Easter grass that Mom so carefully made.
Matching soft yellow flower printed dresses and the cutest white shoes and socks my sister and I wear—and baby brother in a sharp little suit. I sure did love Jesus, these baskets, and new clothes.
Then we packed into the car and headed off to church. Oh, I was so little in that big church.
In awe of Jesus on the cross, the Lillies exploded, and joyful singing came to the Hallelujahs; He has risen.
Soon we were hurried off to lunch and an easter egg hunt with more and more excitement with relatives and friends. The table brimmed with ham, potatoes, green beans, rolls, pies, and more, so much for my eyes. And the parents talked, and we kids played till the sun came down and the evening was here.
On the way home, my eyes were heavy. Oh, Easter Sunday, what a day.
