Prodigal Daughter is a story of beauty from ashes, second chances, and new beginnings. I wrote these poems under the Georgia pines, often in tears, praying they would find the one who feels they have wandered too far. Does God love them? Can we return home again?
The answer is found in God’s wonderful love for His beloved. This collection is for those of us who have wandered, feel lost, or love someone who has. It is a true story of beauty from ashes, exploring the grit and glory of a lost child returning home to the Father.
Let’s tell the world that stories of redemption and grace are still the ones we crave.

This book is my heart on paper, written for every soul who has ever felt ‘too far gone’ to sit at the Father’s table.
I am deeply grateful to the “fellow pilgrims” and creative team who have walked alongside me:
- The Way Back Books www.thewayback2ourselves.com: Led by my publisher, mentor, and friend Kimberly Phinney, who gave these writings a clear purpose and a strategic path forward, and who helped me process my redemptive story and healing through poetry.
- A Soul-Stirring Foreword: Written by Jennifer J. Camp, a dear friend who showed me how to write about the difficult things in life as well.
- The Cover Art: The breathtaking painting “The Dancer” by Linda Phillips is a visual testament to the restoration found in these pages.
- My Lovely Endorsers: I am so grateful for the authors and leaders who have championed this work as endorsers: Jennifer Dukes Lee, Tanner Olson, Hadassah Treu, Theresa M. Miller, Michele Vrabel, Sarah Freymuth, Dawn R. Ward, Deidre Braley (also my lovely copy editor), and Rosa Lía Gilbert (also ensured my Spanish was correct in my poem “A ROSA ROTA IN MAMÁ’S GARDEN.”)
LISTEN Sister On Purpose Podcast: Come and listen to this lovely podcast where I talk about my journey Home: Prodigal Daughter: A Journey Back To Grace with Deborah Rutherford. Thank you Theresa M. Miller.
Thank you for walking this road with me. Please pray that this book reaches those who need to know God’s never-ending, everlasting love. And you, how are you? Let me know how I can pray for you and come alongside you. Because we’re on the journey home together.

With love,
Deborah ????
