I know Wendell Berry has meant so much to many of I know Wendell Berry has meant so much to many of us. I wrote this poem, “The Holy Wild,” after his poem “The Peace of Wild Things,” first published in @thewayback2ourselves: The Peace of Wild Things Journal. When the theme was announced, my heart jumped a little, okay, a lot, because this is my place: reflection and pondering as I find my peace in the wild. Thank you, Wendell Berry, for your lovely poem.

Exciting news coming soon about @thewayback2ourselves Rooted Journal. Can't wait to share.

THE HOLY WILD

The vivid red bird,
stark on the vanilla railing,
flew off to the Myrtle tree.
In the misty morning
I reached for the sun
only to find clouds.

I stepped into the moss
to stick my nose
into a just-born gardenia
and drank her sweet aroma—
a bit like delicious dark chocolate.

There were probably sounds
of cars, mowers, and a plane overhead,
but the flowers silenced it all—
like sound barriers,
portals to another world,
another garden.

And when the winds of despair gathered,
I found refuge there
where I was free
to wander, seek, and wonder
in the Holy Wild.

I wondered:
When man first walked out of the garden,
what did he leave behind?

The rain drizzled and tickled
while my husband tended
to a bent sunflower
who needed his gentle twine.

Again, I wondered:
Do the trees mind the cars passing by?
Have we lost touch with our garden-selves?
Will God swoop everything up
and take it back to Heaven with him?

Dear God, can we return to the holy wild?

You and your journals full of prayers, poems, the You and your journals full of prayers, poems, the wonderful lessons God is teaching and asking, "Lord what shall I write today."

Some days only a word, maybe a scribble, then an epiphany, then more.

So grateful and you?

There are many ways to shine...it could be writing, composing music, caring for each other...what ever way we are called to, let's shine.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16 ✨️

I saw on the news feed that the monarch butterflie I saw on the news feed that the monarch butterflies were coming.

The next morning, as I was getting into my car, I looked over at the garden, and there, on the basil plant, was a beautiful monarch butterfly, which tells me to always look for God’s beautiful, unexpected blessings because they are everywhere.

I must say, I have been finding beautiful blessings everywhere—enchanting, divine moments.

Like the time it rained while the sun was out, and we saw a beautiful pinkish rainbow against a pink-lavender-ish sky.

Or when I saw the first leaves fall, and I thought, "Already!”

And then, and then, oh yes, I turned 67, and what a delight it is. This new, lovely frontier that God is calling me into. And for my birthday, my husband made his sourdough bread, a cake, and built me a writing nook. And he strung up twinkling lights because I wanted them.

And when I read about a blind man receiving His sight in Luke 18:35-43 and mine were opened.

Oh, dear friend, tell me the beauty that you are finding. Your enchanting divine moments. Was it a rainbow, a warm piece of freshly baked sourdough bread, or reading your Bible as the Holy Spirit whispered divine truths?

I invite you to inger in the slides for more unexpected blessings of God’s enchanting divine moments.
