Good Tidings of Joy
What hope is this? That shined so brightly. That sparked in a manger spilling into eternity, touching me this very day?
On a night long ago, the shepherds watched over their quiet flock in the open fields. A grand star in the vast heavens shined brightly. On a night long ago, a multitude of holy Angels appeared to these humble shepherds. What it must have been like that glorious night when these angelic beings announced the birth of our Lord Savior Jesus.
Luke 2:8-15 KJV
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
Hope was Born Spilling into Eternity
On that evening so long ago, hope was born in a tiny baby. God came in the flesh – Emmanuel – God with us.
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Matthew 1:23 KJV
What hope is this? That shined so brightly. That sparked in a manger spilling into eternity, touching me this very day? An incredible love was born to save, soothe, and heal our world.
Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. God’s most wonderful gift to us. God’s love and grace pour out into our world, multiplying and growing.
We make merry by gathering, exchanging cards and gifts, and sharing meals. I will cherish each card signed, the making of a special gift, and plan delightful meals. And of course, baking my favorite yummy cookies and my traditional pie! Each Christmas movie that I have seen many times will be watched with new and expectant eyes as they are every year. Likewise, savoring each Christmas song I sing in church, at home, or in the car – as God’s people coming together as a choir touching the heavens.
The birth of Jesus is the most remarkable event in all human history. The awe of Christmas time is here to sustain us until Jesus comes again.
Wishing you all peace, joy, and happiness in the season of joy, the season of Christmas. Merry Christmas!
