Time to dive into Summer beauty and love for our precious faces and bodies. Because, for everything, there is a season and purpose.

Those were the days –
I remember clinging to the raft as the waves crashed, tormenting me. Gulps of seawater and sand and thrill. That was the day I got sun poisoning. Oh, us silly girls growing up in Southern California. We started sunbathing, slathered in baby oil, at the beaches, poolside, and backyards as early as February. No tanning beds or fake sun tans for us.
Lovely Summer, days of rest, new beginnings, and new adventures.
Let us read Ecclesiastes 3:1: “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven” (NKJV).
Yes, there is a purpose for every season under heaven and a season for everything.
As I enter Summer I am reflecting on this precious passage and asking, “What is my purpose in this season?” Not that I need to come up with an answer because that is God’s domain. But I can slow down, ponder, pray, worship, dance, and delight.

Let us embrace what Summer desires to give as the sun heats up and the pace slows for most. Summer, you are a delight.
And boy, do not I know what the sun can do to this precious skin of mine when I received the basal cell diagnosis on my nose a few years back. I screamed and cried at the injustice of it all. And thankfully, it only needed to be scraped. But since then, I have been diligent with my sun care routine. I will go out without sunscreen before 10 am and after 5 pm to saturate myself in vitamin D. Then, in between, it is sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, coverups, and my favorite thing, relaxing all day on the beach under an umbrella.
As I love your beauty and well-being, I am providing my Five Summer Beauty Tips that I yearly publish. Use them and love and nurture your precious temple of beauty. Because in the Summer, we venture outdoors into the elements, soaking up the sun and refreshing ourselves with pools, lakeside, or oceans. As each season changes our environment; this presents new or different needs for our beauty routine.

FIVE BEAUTY TIPS:
As a makeup artist, I have had the opportunity to work on many faces. Quality practices are one of the most important ways to keep our faces and bodies radiating.
- NOURISH: When we consume generous amounts of fruit and veggies, our skin glows, and we are energized (see my green smoothie recipe). Then by drinking water, we keep our bodies hydrated.
- MOISTURIZE: It is essential to moisturize our skin. I love face oils (see my recommendations here โ Skincare and makeup page โ https://deborahrutherford.comskincare-makeup/).
- LIPS: On a recent work trip to Washington D.C., one of my clients introduced me to Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer. I am using Rhubarb and strawberry EOS.
- EYELASHES: I discovered Jane Iredale PureLash Lash Extender & Conditioner, which moisturizes and nourishes lashes, protects against breakage and creates the appearance of longer lashes. Comb onto lashes and follow with mascara.
- SUNSCREEN: My favorite is Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen. This clear gel works well under makeup or on its own. When wearing makeup, spray over the top with Supergoop (Re) setting Refreshing Mist. Also, for the body, I use Supergoop PLAY Antioxidant Body Mist SPF 30, a water-resistant sunscreen body spray, or COOLA Organic Sunscreen SPF 50 Sunblock Spray.
Fresh Summer Days Makeup –
A fresh face is perfect for summer days! Start by using concealer to cover a blemish or red area. Then draw in eyebrows naturally (with powder, or I use Anastasia’s Brow Wiz pencil). Add a little peach, apricot, or soft rose to the cheeks. Put on a colorful lip gloss or shimmer to brighten up the face. Next, use delicate natural tones on the eyelid, with Brun powder smudged across the top line, curl lashes, and add your favorite mascara. Finish with a bit of powder or blotting paper.
As we go into the summer, let’s spend time outdoors soaking in some sun and moving our bodies while practicing gratitude, laughing with friends, and sharing our spaces with love, hospitality, celebration, and rest. For every season, the good Lord gives us a purpose. Enjoy the unveiling of yours dear friends.
Blessings & Smiles,
Deborah
