Finding Rest in the Busyness
There are sweet quiet moments to sit in thought, reflect, and welcome the blessings of the day. Find rest in the busyness of life!
Early in the morning, my husband and I discuss whether the squirrels and the chipmunks steal each other’s nut treasure boxes. Sweet quiet moments.
In a serious tone, I said, “I believe there is honor amongst them. There just has to be or else there would be more fighting.” Pause. “What about the birds?”
A quiet moment as we take time to ponder the backyard drama of bird bandits and skirmishing squirrels, finally coming to the conclusion that there is in fact honor among the animals.
A bit later, I heard, “Come see the sky”.
I run into the kitchen, bare feet cold, catching the beautiful moment as the morning breaks into light blues and pinks with gold illuminating thin rows of wispy clouds.
I scoot back to the bedroom to find a warm pair of socks.
“Deb! There’s deer in the backyard.”
Dashing back to the kitchen window just in time to catch a small herd of deer, whitetails up as they prance on. Certainly, there is nothing like early mornings, to see God’s beautiful sky paintings and precious creatures.
Soon, the sounds of brewing coffee, computer keyboard tapping, and a lawnmower somewhere explode into the symphony of the day. Thank goodness for sweet quiet moments in between to sit in thought, reflect, and welcome the blessings of the day.
Rest & recharge
Most importantly, we all have a need for rest and recharge. God intended us to work but to also rest. Therefore, whatever your busyness, look for sweet quiet moments.
For instance, is it an engaging book, maybe a soothing bath, or diving into a hobby like crafting or cooking that gives you rest and re-energizes your spirit?
Gentle endearing conversations, watching animals interact and enjoying the rising sun bring cherished quiet moments. Reading God’s word and walking in nature is my go-to for needed rest and recharge.
The conversation about honor amongst animals has moved on for now. But when winter jumps into spring, and the birds begin building nests, furry ones gathering, and fawns darting across the yard, we may revisit this conversation.
Most of all, we will continue watching the greatest show on earth through our kitchen window, finding those sweet quiet moments.
