28 Days – Prayer-Poems for Faith, Spiritual Growth & Life
Welcome! This is my first post for the #28daywrite challenge where I will write throughout this February. Each post is from an assigned keyword, and today’s word is “Longing”. Enjoy my new prayer poem “Turning Our Longing into Something Sweet”!
Can Longing Be Sweet? I ponder this. But with prayer, turning our longing into something sweet is possible.

Can Longing Be Sweet? I ponder this as I confess the longing I sometimes feel may not always be of this nature. But with prayer, I find God turns my nagging appetites for world things into Hope for holy eternal things. Here is my prayer poem “Turning Our Longing into Something Sweet”.
Oh, dear Father, thank you for the longing planted in my heart
Growing Your garden there – You never disappoint and are faithful
Oh, fill my heart with only Your longing, desire, and purpose for my life
As I cling to Your vision and path thanking you for Hope that washes over me,
knocking away disappointments, anxieties, and fear
You strengthen me along the way
Forgive me when I am weary, impatient, demanding, selfish, wicked, and snap,
forgetting for the moment Your glimpse of heaven and everlasting Hope
When I fall into self-pity, self-want, and self-delusion
But You are so kind and merciful
and know the child I am
Nurture, love, and lead me to Your embrace of love
Let the longing in my heart belong only to Your Will,
righteousness, truth, the Word, and eternal things
Sustain me as I journey through the challenges of a world
That seek to devour me with me
Let me focus on Your blessings and be content
Thank You, Holy Spirit, for transforming me into Christ’s likeness
Enabling me to handle my longing with contentment, peace, and love

“Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” Psalms 37:4 KJV
That is to say, make your joy in God because when we do, God plants awesome desires in our hearts, turning our longing into something sweet. The desires that God plants will bring us lasting fulfillment, peace, and contentment. When we find ourselves stressing or striving, God most likely did not place that desire in our hearts. It is a beautiful way to see what is true and beautiful and bring peace and happiness.
