– God does not require perfection; only your heart.
God says, "You are Mine." Come as you are for God does not require perfection, only your heart. He is the one who redeems and restores.

You are mine –
For me, it is incredibly upsetting when I mess up. Like when I find myself throwing darts at those who need my love or judging when I shouldn’t. Then diving into the quicksand of emotional turmoil. I ask myself, although saved, why do I still slip up? Thank goodness God knows I can’t be perfect. None of us can. But the good news is God does not require perfection, only your heart. To the One who says, “You are mine,” I give my heart. Following is a story about the salvation of a young lady who wondered if she was good enough for God. Do you wonder? Then come with me and discover that we are all good enough and belong to God.
We belong –
Some years back, my husband and I were at dinner with a friend and his new girlfriend. We were seated closely together as the lively music swayed among bustling happy patrons. Deep into our conversation, my new friend said, “I respect your faith.”
Surprised but happy for this God-given opportunity, I said, “You can have it too.” Then she explained that God wouldn’t want her because of all the bad things she had done. Whereas I smiled gently and told her some of my stories of all the bad things I had done. But God still wanted me. We laughed over my Hollywood music stories because sometimes laughter helps ease lingering pain. Together we commiserated over our lost innocence.
Then, I explained that God still wanted her too. I shared the hope that Jesus gave me and that He gives to her too. And that is the glorious part. For it doesn’t matter where we have been or what we have done; our Heavenly Father is waiting for us to come home. He understands He soothes, He comforts, He forgives. God does not require perfection; only your heart. We belong to Him.
This beautiful young lady invited us to her baptism on Easter Sunday a year later. The early morning fresh air touched my face as the sun warmed my shoulders. While seabirds danced within the crashing water, I inhaled the fresh salty air, invigored by a gentle wind. From the shore, I joyfully watched as the Pastor dipped her beneath the waves, my eyes now wet. Now that is how our God works.
He wants our hearts –
Like me, or like this young lady, are you feeling broken and forever scarred? Do you wonder if God can help? Worse, does He even want you? How can God pick you up when you fall back into sin? Can He love you when you have been so unfaithful or disobedient? Does God get tired of fixing you over and over? Or of forgiving you over and over? So much shame and guilt that nearly drowns you, but listen, there is good news. God never tires of fixing or forgiving you. Rest assured, God knows your very name, and you are His. God does not require perfection; only your heart.
– I have called you by your name
Isaiah 43.1 reads, “But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.”
Above all, see that God superbly created and intricately formed you! How can He not love you? You are His. Also, God says do not fear, for He has redeemed you. Remember that whenever the enemy sneaks in with accusations and lies, trying to tie you to heavy chains of shame and guilt. Your Father has saved you! Blessed and forgiven. Amen! And not only that, but He has called you by your name. That is so wonderful. Hold onto that precious scripture, for you have a God who adores you. Our Holy Father says, “You Are Mine.” I weep at that. Such depths of love. We feel the peace of Jesus when we know that we are loved by the One who loves us.
Sometimes we think we need to fix ourselves before we come to God. But what is the point of that? For God does not require perfection; only our hearts. Remember, God is the One who fixes us. He makes us white as snow as the blood of Jesus purifies our sin. God is our redeemer, our restorer.
Redeemed & Restored –
The transformative power of Jesus redeems and restores you. Now, will you claim it? Will you realize that God wants you just as you are? He doesn’t need perfection, only hearts. I challenge you to meditate on Isaiah 43:1 for a week before going to sleep or waking. I am receiving so much comfort, insight, and peace by memorizing and pondering this scripture. Cling to the Word during a sleepless night. Whisper this verse in the stir of the morning while the day is still. Then later, when the challenges of sharing the roads and workplaces, you will have this verse imprinted on your soul.
Come as you are –
It doesn’t mean our walk with God will always be smooth. The terrain can be a grassy knoll, then a hidden valley, onto a glass-like plateau, leading up to a narrow path, but then down to a tunnel where the air is stuffy, your eyes barely focusing in the near dark. Whether the sun is high or the stars are laid out, there will always be struggles. This is because it is easy to fall into temptation and old ways, and it will be that way until we get to heaven. But know this – God does not require perfection; only your heart.
I have been severely wounded, scarred, broken, and I can testify that I am only here because of Christ’s grace and love. The depression, self-harm, and emotional outbursts are no match for our Savior, who will tame, heal, and guide us on our run toward the eternal crown.
It is not about trying to be perfect. It is about letting God work through you, transforming you. Will we give Him our hearts?
The Divine Creator reforms, shapes, restores, redeems, molds, and lifts us into Christ’s image as we surrender to God’s call. Imagine the harmony in our families as we obey God and leave the restoring to Him instead of our feeble attempts. Envision our churches like a symphony of faithful brothers and sisters coming together in unity. Picture what our world will look like as we reach our God-given potential! Come as you are now, for God does not require perfection, only your hearts.
But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.
