Hi, I’m Deborah, a Christian wife, poet, and writer who spent many years as a working film and television makeup artist. Today begins a new series: Behind the Scene, where I will share some of those experiences. I’d like to share some beauty tips with you about long-lasting makeup. One day, when we get to heaven, we will slip into our beautiful, eternal bodies, and that will be truly long-lasting.
Long-lasting makeup does not last forever. For some, it is gone in an hour. That’s what kept me employed for a 30-year career. #beauty #Christianbeauty #beautytips

BEHIND THE SCENE FEATURING REBECCA GEORGE:
I had the opportunity to have my friend and coach, author Rebecca George, on my Behold-Her Beauty podcast, and one of my signature questions is to ask my guest for a beauty tip. Rebecca shared her new lipstick, Nyx Lip IV. You can find this product and other wonderful waterproof makeups in my Amazon store: Waterproof Makeup Essentials. Also, you can pick up Rebecca George’s latest book, “You’re Not Too Late: Trusting God’s Timing in a Hurry-Up World.”

We discussed the need for a lipstick that would stay on. Especially when we are in front of the camera, posting, podcasting, and taking headshots. Rebecca’s lipstick was pretty and stayed throughout the interview.
She also wanted to know how I keep the makeup on my actors for long hours of shooting, so I thought you might want to know a little behind the scenes. Thank you Rebecca for giving me the idea to begin this series!

What many may not know is that a film makeup artist doesn’t apply it once. The day begins with applying makeup in the morning, followed by reapplication as needed before each take, achieved through blotting and touch-ups.
Keeping makeup intact can be particularly challenging in hot weather or during water scenes.
These are not just set secrets, but practical tips that can be applied to your everyday life. They can also be used for weddings, church, and date night.
Here are a few:
- Prepping your skin is crucial. It’s the canvas for your makeup, so start with a clean, moisturized face. For extended wear, consider using an oil-free moisturizer. Then you need to set it with blot, powder, or spray.
- One of my favorite products after makeup is Supergoop! (Re)setting Refreshing Mist, 1 fl oz – SPF 40 PA+++ Facial Mist, Sets Makeup, Refreshes UV Protection & Helps Filter Pollution – Light, Natural Scent. It can be applied directly over makeup and is light, so it doesn’t get in the eyes or inhaled.
- I loved Blinc tubing mascara because it is a tube mascara, which means it doesn’t run. You can also use waterproof mascara, but make sure you have a remover for it and go gently on your eyelashes.
- For eyebrows, a long-lasting pencil or powder is best, as you do not want them to smear.
- Whether you wear eyeshadow or not, a translucent powder on your lids helps.
- Lips, I love colored lip balm, but also use ones with long-lasting formulas.
- For foundation or concealer, the long-lasting ones work wonderfully.

Filming water work requires lots of touch-ups, but there are tricks of the trade to make the makeup hold. For instance, on Gemma Ward’s Mermaid makeup in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” I applied eyelashes that would stay on underwater and then my husband, Don Rutherford, and I used waterproof makeup and sealers after he applied the prosthetics.

You can visit my Waterproof Makeup Essentials store on Amazon to discover how to incorporate waterproof and long-lasting makeup into your routine.
Thankfully, Summer is the season to glow, so embrace your glow!
My summer beauty is a bare face, really. I may use a little concealer, powder, and bronzer, but I prefer to get natural sun in the morning, which gives me just enough color for the season. However, you might want to consider using a bronzer or a BB cream with a bit of color in it.
I also like to use a neutral powder on my lids with a deep brown eyeliner, curl my lashes, and add mascara.
That’s my summer beauty.
This Summer, simplify Your Beauty Routine and remember that you are beautiful and wonderfully made by our loving Creator, God.

Wonderfully made,
Deborah
